During lockdown in 2020, I was stuck in an Old Town in northern Germany, living with my boyfriend at the time, 4 other flatmates, and a pitbull named Gloria. I had just started my mindset coaching business, and was so inspired by all the girl bosses online who also coached, but weaved astrology into their work. Plus, everything was shut down. I needed a fixation to avoid insanity: astrology was my rabbit hole.
I went into a vortex learning all about astrology, and devoured content about how it can help in your branding, the way you make money, how you attract new clients… the list was endless. I even signed up for a course to learn how to read a birth chart (did I get past Module 1? No, but that’s not the point. I was INVESTED).
I journaled how my DREAM client would be someone also into astrology, Human Design, tarot, mediumship, oracle cards, crystals… I wanted my sessions to be a mix of practical steps, sprinkled with esoteric, witchy, and mystical concepts.
Turns out: dreaming and journaling and vision boarding works. Most of my clients now are astrologers, Human Design readers, spiritual teachers, health and wellness girlies, therapists or punk rock poets, writers and visionaries.
Because of this, astrology has naturally seeped into my subconscious and become a part of my world. I check Chani every day. I have Cosmic Latte’s Moonscopes on my calendar so I know what sign and phase the moon is in. I attend moon circles every few months. 80% of my IG feed is astrologers sharing their takes on the upcoming transits, what the zodiac season we’re in has in store, or how to decipher your birth chart.
It’s become a second language to me - but I’m not fluent in it. I don’t know about EVERY single placement, house, degree etc in my chart. It’s more like “conversational astrology”. So I bring it up in conversations, because I’m interested in it.
In spring, I went on a date with this hot Dutch guy. He was a doctor, working on treating cancer in children, and a model standing at 6’4”, sharp jawline, and flowy brunette hair. I know - he sounds like the Tinder Swindler. I promise you - he was real and I fact checked his background lol.
He mentioned his birthday. “Ohhhh, a Taurus!” I exclaimed. My mom is a Taurus. It was simply a point of connection and new track in the conversation.
“You believe in that shit?!” he blurted out, eyebrows furrowing in disbelief. The cat was out of the bag: I was one of THOSE girls.
We proceeded to have a mini debate - science vs. astrology - for about 15 mins. It was heated. We didn’t go on a second date.
The next day, I thought about all the men I’ve dated, and how they constantly put down astrology. It got me thinking - why the hell are men so triggered by astrology?
I enlisted the help of on an astrologer who married a scientist to help me answer this question: Jaz Borri.
Catch the episode below:
Pssst - this isn’t the first time Jaz and I fell into a conversational whirlwind. Catch her on this ep of In My Non-Expert Opinion from 2023.
I also got to appear on her show, The Esoteric Entrepreneur, TWICE this year (can you tell we’re a teensy bit obsessed with each other?) - tune in below:
I want to hear your take. What do you think of astrology? Do you bring it up on dates? How does your lover react? Do you hide that you’re into it? Or do you decenter people’s opinions and share boldly? Let me know in the comments!
Omg is this going to be your peak episode to date? 🤩
